coats of arms

Coats of arms are a tradition in western Europe going back to the 12th Century A.D.  Heraldry still thrives today because in an ever increasing monotone digital world many people have an innate desire to stand alone. To be noticed and recognised. In this sense a coat of arms is much like company logo. It is the first visual point of contact in many cases. It is in essence a personal brand. It should be of the highest quality to impart to the viewer, who you are, not only as a person but as a family.

You do not have to be from a noble or knightly family. Anyone can have a coat of arms designed and painted for them and what better way to visually identify a family using a traditional art form that is centuries old. Coats of arms have come to represent consistency, continuity and a proud family history. A coat of arms speaks of who you are as a person, your goals, your past, your profession. It represents, like no other art form, the self in a beautifully symbolic, pictorial and original way that has survived the test of time.

Since 1983, Andrew Jamieson has been designing and painting new coats of arms for people from all walks of life. He also paints new versions of existing coats of arms that may be a little stale in style . During his 43 year professional career he has established a reputation for high quality artwork and a tradition of excellence. Importantly he is one of only a very few artists who have received a specific training in the arts of heraldry, calligraphy, traditional manuscript illumination and drawing, essential for any art form. He Studied from 1980 to 1983 on the only course of its kind in the world, a course that closed in 1987. During that time and after he was fortunate to have trained under some of the finest heraldic artists and calligraphers in the world.

Andrew's studio does not produce digital work. He designs, draws and paints everything by hand just as his craft ancestors over the centuries have done. His skill sets are highly unique and go far beyond anything a heraldic graphic designer might produce. Andrew's coats of arms speak of quality,  originality and tradition and he offers a range of heraldic styles to suit everyone's needs.
